A NOTE FROM YOUR CHIEF CAMP COUNSELOR:
Hello from the halfway point! This is usually about the time that we look up and realize we’re lost, that somewhere along the way we got distracted and separated from the group. Isn’t it funny how even in a self-guided experience we can feel like we’re behind? I promise, you’re not. In fact, in spite of everything, you’ve arrived, along with the rest of us, at the perfect reset point.
This week, we’re keeping it short, because our mission is simple: To get out of our heads and find our way back to ourselves. And how will we do this not-very-easy-sounding-thing? The only way I know how: get outside, get quiet, get curious.
Adventure is out there, Campers. And so is the way home. Put your shoes on and let’s find it.
A NOTE FROM YOUR OTHER (FAVORITE) CAMP COUNSELOR:
Hi Campers! ItsmeBuckwheat.
Welcome back to my very special part of camp: Weekly Wonder Walks! In case you’re new (and wonder-ing)…
My name is Buckwheat (that’s me in the picture below) and I’m pretty much an expert at walks. One of my favorite parts is all the fun things you can find when you’re walking. For example, sticks. Also, street snacks. And squirrel friends! The Outside is filled with wonders! And, unfortunately, cats.
Each week, I’m going to take you on a walk where we will hunt for treasure (and avoid cats). You can use this time as a simple noticing walk or a photo scavenger hunt. You can keep track of your findings in your head (if you have any extra space up there) or bring a handy notebook. This week is especially nice for sketching your finds…
THIS WEEK’S AWE-SOME ACTIVITIES & CHALLENGES:
(click on each image to enlarge)
Foraged Faces: In the middle of quarantine, I created a Curiosity Camp for my niece and I to do together even though she lives across the country (that’s right, this camp isn’t my first rodeo…or my first digital camp). This Foraged Faces project was one of my favorites. If you need a little inspiration, you can check out what we made or scroll through this #facethefoliage thread.
THIS WEEK’S AWE-MAZING EVENTS:
Psst! Hey Reader…
How is your summer going??

The highlight of my summer so far has been driving down Sunset all the way to the ocean and spending the day at the beach (the way you always think you will when it’s only 8 miles away- and yet you never do) You wouldn’t believe the bumblebee I saw the other day- it was huge!! I can’t wait to do a few more quintessential summery things before the summer is over. How are we already at the end of August?!
If I could be an animal I’d choose a sperm whale. I know that sounds weird but they dive the deepest out of any cetaceans and they’re big enough not have any predators! Don’t need to be worrying about sharks catching me!
