My sister recently reminded me of this funny thing she does, where sheāll turn on one of her favorite movies and just watch the last 20 minutes. She actually does this more than she watches a full movie. Because thatās where all the good stuff happens. You get all the warm fuzziesā the resolution, the reunions, the revelations, the romanceā all in less time than it takes to get through a sitcom.
Talk about something that feels like a warm hug. (She had just finished this post about tending to joy and my festively-flavored latte)
I originally thought this sounded a bit nutsā a lovable quirk, charming but weird. But, really, who am I to judge? I am constantly hopping into Gilmore Girls when I need to feel safe and soothed. I fast forward through parts (Dean), skipping past entire episodes (The Rift, Lukeās Reveal) until Iām exactly where I want to be.
The truth is, we might both be weird. But what I think weāve discovered here are shortcuts to comfort. We all know life doesnāt come with an easy button, but, in a pinch, a remote control will do.
What Iād really love to know is how are you weird what shortcuts have you discovered?
Are there stories you hop into that feel like a comfy blanket?
Are there books or pages you (literally) turn to when you need something that feels warm and known?
What else is in your quick grab comfort kit? A warm drink? A special mug? A song? A place?
