Muppet Christmas Carol is one of my favorites, but I love so many Christmas movies. White Christmas was a family favorite when I was a kid.

White Christmas for my family too! It's one of the few movies that is exactly how I remember it every time I rewatch. We also loved Holiday Inn and Christmas in Connecticut for classics.

P.S. Have you watched Spirited (Apple TV+)- the newest spin on A Christmas Carol with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds?

Yes, and I enjoyed Spirited!

Love, Actually, When Harry Met Sally, Shop Around the Corner (old 1940 Jimmy Stewart and Margaret O'Sullivan--You've Got Mail loosely based on it) and Die Hard we watch every year. Will have to check out The Holiday again, since several people I know say it's one of their favorites. I know I watched it, but it didn't stick with me the first time around.

I get that. There have definitely been movies I didn't vibe with at first and now I can't remember ever not liking them. You're the first person I've met who includes Harry & Sally and Shop Around The Corner in your holiday line up, but I can very much appreciate the festive coziness those add!

The xmas tree scenes and New Years Eve scenes, repeated, in When Harry Met Sally (besides the fell good aspect) as with the last scene in the Shop Around the Corner when everyone rallies around to sell everything the night before xmas for the shop owner who tried to commit suicide) are what makes these two movies holiday movies for us. Then of course, Die Hard becomes the antidote for the sweetness of the rom-coms--although it's got plenty of sweetness to it.

Great post! We saw 'The Holiday' for the first time last year - that was gorgeous! And 'Love Actually' is always a wonderful watch. I haven't seen the Muppet Christmas Carol but gosh I'm going to seek it out....!

Yessss! I feel like it's so hard for "modern" movies to become holiday classics, but Love Actually and The Holiday managed to do just that! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on The Muppet Christmas Carol and- if I can recommend a fun pairing- Spirited (brand new on Apple TV) is a refreshing new take on the Christmas carol story. I really loved it!

Thanks for putting into words how wonderful/overwhelming December can be! This year my shopping motivation is just... bleh. Haven't done it. What am I waiting for? Oh, yes, last-minute panic, that's it. Hasn't hit yet, but its coming.

Cheers to Muppet Christmas Carol! God bless us, every one.

Last year on Christmas Day we watched Die Hard (considered a Christmas movie by half my family) immediately followed by It's A Wonderful Life. Then I had nightmares of Jimmy Stewart running around Bedford Falls with a flamethrower.

Oh my! That definitely sounds like a nightmare, but I feel like that could also be a fun game- mash up two unlikely holiday movies...or plop a classic christmas character into a totally different genre of christmas film...Hang on...I need to reach out the Cards Against Humanity folks and let them know I have their next big idea!

On another note, last year my husband and I did almost all our shopping in person. Easier to do in LA than other places, but it made the whole thing feel more like an experience and less like a chore.

I like the game idea! You could have two different hats/bowls with Christmas movies written on index cards; draw a card from each and make your mashup.

I may take that inspiration and do some in-person shopping! Hope you have a great week and season ahead.
