You’ve arrived! If you’re not sure how you got here (or what Camp AweGust is), head to this link for orientation.
If you’re looking for the Weekly Adventure Plans, use these shortcuts to visit Week 1 and Week 2. Remember, you can move at your own pace and in any order you like, so jump around.
Welcome Campers (& Visitors),
It’s a great day to kick off Camp! The sun is shining. The air is crisp. The birds are chirping. The frogs are ribbit-ing. The excitement is absolutely effervescent. Or maybe that’s just the fizz of the gas station sodas everyone gulped down on the drive over. (Now is probably a good time to mention that the bathrooms are right over there. Just walk past the Rec Center and make a right).
As much as I’d like to rush right in, Buckwheat reminded me that we are prioritizing ease this month, so Day 1 is all about settling in and getting the lay of the land.
*Buckwheat also pointed out that our last itinerary will go out on August 31st, which is supposed to be the last day of camp, which would give us zero days to enjoy those escapades, which clearly won’t work. The good news is, that weekend is Labor Day in the States, which will give (many of us) a bonus adventure day. All that to say, our last day of Camp (and your final day to earn points) will be Monday, September 5th.
Your first Weekly Itinerary will be delivered to your doors (and inboxes) this Friday and then every Thursday after that. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s to come…
On the bulletin board behind me (well, technically below) you’ll find our Camp Values and Camp Reminders. I know we have a lot of rule-followers joining us, so we’ve made a 'No Rules’ policy. That said, we rule-followers tend to feel more comfortable with guidance, so use these instead, as gentle directives.
Before you make your way to your cabins, I’ve put together a short sur-THRIVE-al Guide. These three steps will help ensure you find what you need and get the most out of your time here at Camp AweGust:
Find your play style
I’ve always understood the power of play. I just thought play looked a certain way and I wasn’t very good at it. Turns out– there are 8 different styles of play! Understanding yours, much like finding your enneagram type or your love language, can help you lean in to what feels restorative and fun to you, so it’s easier to prioritize and more effortless to do so. Take this quiz and keep your play style in mind when you’re choosing (or customizing) your Camp Adventures.
Plan to be flexible
This is one of our Camp Reminders for a reason. When you’re a grown up, the secret to finding time for fun is making time. And the best way to do that is to plan ahead.
Take a few minutes to think about your real life schedule and pick some times and days you want to dedicate to Camp. Start small and see if there are existing routines or plans you can piggy-back onto.
Add these blocks to your calendar, so it’s easier to remember and harder to double book. (I like to set a goal and then add in a few extra blocks in case things come up…because they always do)
If your schedule is looking full and you don’t want to take away free time you normally spend with friends or family, invite them to join you!
Know what you’re looking for, so you can find it
You can call this setting an intention or a goal, even a mantra, but knowing what you want to get out of something– whether it’s a result or a feeling– is the best way to make sure you do. What is it that you’re hoping to get out of Camp? What would you like to learn or discover? What do you need more of in your life? How do you want to feel at the end of this month?
BONUS! Meet & Greet (1 pt)
