Hello Fellow Campers!

My name is Tami. I’m from Los Angeles (by way of Chicago and Indiana and Canada), but right now I really wish I was in Bali. Or some other luxurious paradise place. 90% of the pictures on my phone are of flowers I see on my walks and my dog, Buckwheat. If you like listening to podcasts about the human experience or deep dives on the latest tv shows, we’re going to get along just fine.

Buckwheat is an amazing dog name.

Thank you Julie! He's a wheaten terrier, so it felt like the opportunity was just right there πŸ˜‰ Plus, he's very much a little rascal.

I love LA! We have (Canadian) family there who live in Silver Lake. My husband is Canadian!

Ohmygoodness! How funny. You'll also have to let me know when you're visiting next time! We live in West Hollywood, which is wonderful and walkable, but if I were moving to LA now I'd probably choose Silverlake.

My name is Dre. I’m from Los Angeles (and I live in New York) but right now I wish I was in Oahu, specifically in Kaneohe! 90% of the pictures on my phone are of my 2 year old daughter + random pictures she’s taken when she sneakily grabs my phone! If you like listening to jazz music we’re going to get along just fine.

I think Oahu would definitely satisfy my craving for paradise (and a much shorter flight than Bali!) – count me in! Also, I love that your 2 year old daughter steals your phone and takes pictures. I bet there are some real gems in there!

Ohmygoodness two Cosmos?!

We named ours after Cosmo Kramer, because he is quirky and everybody's friend. A lady yesterday thought is name was Cogito, and said, "I used to know a really cool dog named Cogito..." before wandering away.

So excited for this!! Hi all! I’m Tracy camping from suburbs of D.C., Maryland. I wish I was back in los Cerritos Mexico, where I vacationed in June. It was so peaceful! 90% of the pics on my phone are of my kids doing something insane. If you like listening to anything and everything new - we need to be friends because I’m stuck in the early 2000s - 2010s and am bad at finding new jams.

Yay! Welcome Tracy! A peaceful Mexican escape sounds like a dream. I wish I could offer some new music recommendations, but even my Spotify algorithm seems stuck somewhere around 2010 with a little explicit french rap music thrown in there from the time my account got hacked 🫣 That said, there's definitely something to the transportive magic of nostalgic tunes!

Hello Fellow Campers!

My name is Julie. Ooo what kind of sewing projects?? When we were little, my grandma used to fill our summers with crafts and projects (the original Camp AweGust now that I think about it....) and we always had a cross stitch or embroidery kit to tackle! I've been wanting to pick that back up because it seems like it could be so meditative. Also, hearing people singing loudly (and not well) with the windows down brings me SO. MUCH. JOY!

I have gotten super into making my own clothes! It started because most of my wardrobe is t-shirt dresses, but at a certain point it started to become hard to find the t-shirt dress I wanted. It seemed basic and straightforward to me, but was somehow elusive. And then one day I realized maybe I could just make it. I have now made many dresses and some jackets that I love (especially I love that I can make perfect pockets on them, like pencil pockets and a pocket sized exactly for my phone). I want to tackle pants next. I love that I can make pretty simple things, but there is a whole world of more complex sewing that I can work toward.

Expand full comment

Wowowow! I can imagine how empowering that must be– to just make the clothes you want and to be able to make them the way you want (the perfect pockets!). What a cool skill to be developing.

Expand full comment

It has turned out to be unbelievably empowering. And I'm finding that I don't mind that there are mistakes on them, because the process of making them, and making them the way I want them to be, cancels out any flaws. Also it's just super fun.
